KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter 2010/2011 year at a Glance The KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter began the new membership year with only 16 members. We started the year with a membership drive to increase our membership. Past President James Staniford and President Danny McGraw sponsored a money prize to be given to the member that had the most new members to join. As a chapter we have increased our membership to 58 members. The KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter began fundraising for the Gary Blair Memorial Scholarship. We have had 2 silent auctions. The Laurel Gorge Chapter had KCCD T-Shirts made to sell and sold quiet a few of them. We sold the World’s Finest Chocolate candy bars. We sponsored the 1st Annual Chili Cook-off this year at LSCC. The first Gary Blair Memorial Scholarship was give to a graduating senior of Elliott County Senior High School whose parent works at LSCC. The KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter partnered with Santa's Hero's in Elliott County and conducted a Zumbathon, with all proceeds benefiting the program. Santa's Hero's distributes Christmas presents to the underprivileged children of Elliott County. The KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter partnered with the Kentucky Blue Knights XV, sponsoring the 1st Annual Prison Break in May 2011. We sold T-shirts and supplied a meal after the ride. Proceeds from this rally benefitted the scholarship fund. The KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter challenged everyone at LSCC to join our Weight Loss Program. The winner would receive 50% of the money and KCCD would receive the remaining 50%. We currently have another Weight Loss Program going now with the winner receiving 50% of the raised money and KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter receiving the remaining 50%. The KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter solicited for door prizes to be given out during Corrections Week. We had many good gifts that were given out to LSCC employees. We sponsored Hill Billy Golf during Corrections Week and gave 2 KCCD memberships as prizes. The KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter has given sympathy cards and money to KCCD members who lost a family member. We have given money to a member who lost his home in a fire. As a chapter we also decided when a member has a new baby we would purchase a large box of diapers to help. So far we have purchased one box and plan to purchase more in the future. We have also given money to the March of Dimes. As the 2010/2011 membership year comes to a close, we can say that we have made leaps and bounds. We have increased our membership, raised money for the community, and handed out our 1st scholarship. The current KCCD Laurel Gorge Chapter already has events planned for the upcoming year to raise money and benefit LSCC employees as well as the community we are located in. We currently have another silent auction going on now to benefit the Scholarship fund for the next scholarship to be given out. We are in the process of working with the Elliott County Nursing Home to plan an event there to benefit the residents.
